TJ and the Coastal Critters' Pizza Party Contest!

A Partnership Project with Live Oak Public Libraries, United Way of the Coastal Empire and SCCPSS

     ●     When: February 3 through 28th at participating SCCPSS schools and grades

  • United Way of the Coastal Empire, SCCPSS, and Live Oak Libraries are teaming up to promote the use of Live Oak Public Libraries PLAY Cards.
  • PLAY Cards give Georgia public school students fines-free access to millions of public library resources, including both physical and digital resources. When students are assigned student ID / lunch numbers at their school, they are automatically awarded a PLAY account.

It's like having a whole library in a student's pocket. This PLAY card is meant to be the student's very own special keepsake, unlocking a treasure box of books and more.

On February 3rd, teachers are reading a donated book to PreK ti second grade classes and giving a PLAY card to every student in participating schools.

Students just fill in their first and last name on the front of the card with a pen or permanent marker:

On the back of the card, they can use a pen or permanent marker to add in their student ID number and password/pin, which is their birth month and year.

Then, just come to an LOPL library and start checking out books and other materials! That's it!

Check out the library website at www.liveoakpl.org for locations, hours and program information.

Details:

Live Oak Public Libraries will track the use of PLAY cards by each Pre-K, K, 1st, and 2nd grade SCCPSS student from February 3rd to February 28th.

A Donatos pizza party will be held for all the students and teachers in one grade at one participating SCCPSS Elementary or K-8 school. The winning grade and school will be determined by which grade has the highest participation of students using PLAY cards.

Usage is defined as checking out physical materials from a Live Oak Public Libraries branch.

It doesn't matter what type of book, or what reading level the book is that the student checks out, all that matters is that they are using library materials, actively reading, and learning to love the library.

Transportation Support

If you need transportation assistance to get to the library, United Way of the Coastal Empire can help with Lyft rideshare passes through the Ride United Transportation Access program. Accessing a roundtrip Lyft pass (valued up to $26 each way) is simple. Ask your student's teacher for details.

What's Available at LOPL?

Along with fines-free access to books and materials, the PLAY card also provides students and their families access to free or discounted passes to state parks and museums like:

●     Telfair Academy

  • Savannah Children's Museum
  • Skidaway Island State Park
  • Wormsloe State Historic Site

On the LOPL website www.liveoakpl.org, students can log into digital materials anywhere, anytime, to engage, learn, and have fun including:

●     E-Read Kids: ebooks, audiobooks, and read-alongs

  • ABCmouse.com: interactive books, educational materials, and learning activities
  • TumbleBookLibrary: - ebooks, talking picture books, videos, and games for kids in English and Spanish

Hoopla: audiobooks, ebooks, music, movies, and television shows
  • Tutor.com: free one-on-one tutoring
  • Mango: language learning

For this contest, checking out digital materials or logging into digital apps and websites will not count towards the pizza party. The contest only counts physical material checkouts.

Troubleshooting

Does the PLAY card replace a regular LOPL Library Card?

The PLAY card is not a replacement for an LOPL Library Card. However, a traditional LOPL Library Card does not have fine free access to materials.

For the contest, ONLY MATERIALS CHECKED OUT ON THROUGH THE PLAY CARD WILL COUNT!

What if my child's PLAY Card doesn't work?

You may have “opted out" of the Play program when you opted out of receiving other messages from SCCPSS. If this is the case and you want to “opt-in" to the PLAY card, the Media Specialist at school can help.

What if my child loses their card?

All Live Oak Public Libraries branches in Chatham County will have replacement cards available at their circulation desks. The child or their parent/caretaker may come in during regular hours to get a replacement at no cost.

Other students in my family would like a Coastal Critter PLAY card. Can I get one for them?

Right now, Coastal Critter PLAY cards are only available to students participating in the contest. But, stay tuned! We'll be sharing them across the system soon!

We are having trouble finding something on the Live Oak Public Libraries' website…
