According to research published by Scholastic, summer reading is critical, not only for helping kids maintain learning while school is out, but also for fostering social-emotional development, discovering the joy of stories, and elevating the importance of lifelong learning.  SCCPSS encourages our students to spend time reading over the summer, not only to prevent learning loss, but also to help prepare them for the upcoming school year.  We have pulled together lists of recommended books in the documents below – though students are welcome to read anything that interests them.  There are also suggested activities that will help students retain what they read.  We hope you have a great summer!  Happy Reading!!
