8th Grade Georgia Milestones Testing

8th Grade GMAS Testing

GMAS Testing for 8th grade students has started at The STEM Academy this morning. With that, we have had questions regarding GMAS testing for virtual students.

The U.S. Department of Education informed Georgia that state assessments must be administered for the 2020-2021 school year. Click here to view the letter. As such, we will be administering Georgia Milestones. However, State Superintendent Richard Woods issued the following statement regarding virtual students and state assessments.

“With these changes in place to remove student and teacher consequences, the federal removal of the 95% participation requirement, and the clear direction of USED that students should not be brought into school buildings for the purpose of taking a test, I have communicated to Georgia school districts that they should not require virtual students to come into the building solely for the purpose of taking Georgia Milestones, and should ensure that parents understand this option is available to them.”

While we will not require virtual students to test, we are obligated to allow virtual students to participate in GMAS testing if their families wish to do so.

STEM Academy parents of virtual students along with all SCCPSS parent/guardian(s) received a survey regarding their choice to test. Only those students who chose to test should be participating in GMAS testing. In order to participate in GMAS testing, students in the virtual cohort are required to test at The STEM Academy. Students may not test from their home.

Students in the virtual cohort NOT participating in GMAS testing should remain virtual and should NOT report to The STEM Academy.

If you feel you need to change your choice for testing and/or have questions regarding testing, contact The STEM Academy testing coordinator Mrs. Vanessa Routh at vanessa.routh@sccpss.com by 3 pm today. Please include your student's first and last name and homeroom teacher.

If your student is currently part of the virtual cohort and has chosen to participate in GMAS testing, please follow the schedule below:

Students in the virtual cohort participating in GMAS testing at STEM need to arrive at 8 am and enter through the front door. Students will go through standard Covid-19 screening protocols.

We thank you for your patience and flexibility.
