Advanced Composition Read Don't Believe Everything You Think by Thomas Kida

American Literature
All students taking American Literature should read the following two texts. - The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
- The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Pay close attention to character and theme development. Students will complete an in-class writing assignment within the first two weeks of school.

AP English Language and Composition
AP Language students must read the required texts over the summer, and ideally should have their own copy of the books to bring to class. AP English Literature and Composition
AP English Literature is an upper-level course, and the expectations are greater than in other non-AP English classes. This course requires summer reading.
The texts are: All the Pretty Horses, by Cormac McCarthy Klara and the Sun, by Kazuro Ishiguro
Since we will use these works in class, it is recommended you have your own copy. The expectations are the works will be read and considered before the first day of class.

British Literature
Klara and the Sun, by Kazuo Ishiguro The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams Both works are expected to be read and considered by the first day of school.

Dramatic Writing
Required: The Dark Knight Returns, by Frank Miller (a graphic novel) The Maltese Falcon, by Dashiell Hammett
Recommended: Screenwriting: The Foundations of Screenwriting, by Syd Field Both required works are expected to be read and considered by the first day of school.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE
French l & 2 Each student is recommended to acquire a copy of Barron's 501 French Verbs.

French 3 The purchase of the following book is optional, and the book does not have to be read prior to August. However, if you wish to start early, read Le Petit Nicolas (French Edition) by René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempé.

AP French Required: Read Ourika by Claire de Duras (The Original French Text) and take detailed notes highlighting your observation of the following themes: public and private identity, family bonds, culture shock, power structures, and the effects of the French Revolution.
