Prep sports highlights: Savannah Arts girls among top cross country teams in Class 3A state

The Savannah Arts girls cross country team continued its excellent season as the Panthers had a perfect score at the recent SCCPSS Race No. 2 held at Lake Mayer.
Margaret Wade rolled to the win by over a minute, setting a school record in the 5K of 19:25. She was followed by her teammates Ava Coffey (second in 20:35.7), Lyric Olson (third, 21:22.8), Camille Arango (fourth, 22:17.9), Elle Harward-Grant (fifth, 22:22) and Ava Thomas (sixth in 22:47.6).
Savannah Arts also took the boys race, led by Brogan Steele, who won the individual title in 17:11.
The Panther girls, ranked No. 3 in the state among Class 3A teams by MileSplit.com, had another top-notch performance Thursday at the Honey Ridge 5K in Guyton. Wade, the standout junior, won again in 20:07.47, with Olson (20:50.31) and Coffey (21:12.23) in second and third. Cheyenne Ryan of South Effingham was fourth in 21:40.94, with Arango (22:50.93) sixth and Harward-Grant (22:52.19) seventh as the Panthers scored 19 points to win the team race over South Effingham (44).
South Effingham sophomore Tyler Phillips won the boys race at Honey Ridge in 16:33.29 with his teammate Cailan Howard (16:51.72) in second. Steele of Savannah Arts was third in 17:04.13 with Joey Burdick of South Effingham sixth in 17:58.15, with Habersham School freshman Nicholas Aldrich (18:22.16) eighth.
— Savannah Country Day junior John Ryan won the Raider Invite at Savannah Christian on Sept. 21, covering the 5K course in 17:33.51. JT Gard of SCPS was second in 17:56.07, with Hawkeye Hrones of SCD third in 18:42.24. Logan Ratliff of SCPS was fourth in 19:33.33 and Calvary Day's Jackson Jones finished fifth in 19:41.84.
SCD won the boys team race with 40 points, beating SCPS (60) and Calvary (72).
In the girls race, Savannah Christian senior Kendall Lynes won in 21:25.05, followed by her classmate Kate Britt (22:07.71). Sarah Jane Schulze of Savannah Country Day was third in 22:39.18 and her teammate Gracie Daters was fifth in 23:48.78.
Jenkins sophomore Chiara Favrin was fourth in 23:31.17.
SCD, ranked No. 10 among Class 1A Private schools in Georgia by MileSplit.com, won the girls team race with 41 points, to beat Calvary Day (72) and SCPS (72).
