Off the Canvas
Junk 2 Funk 2022
Show dates:
Thursday March 24th
Friday March 25th
Saturday March 26th

This year's theme is called Off the Canvas where students are inspired by original paintings from the Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, Abstract, and Pop art movements. Their objective is to create a garment or collection based off of their chosen painting and make that painting come to life as if that model steps out and off the canvas..and on to the runway 🙂 After two years of Covid and closed museums, we want to make our audience feel like they are spending a night at the museum when the paintings come alive!

Hallway Display:

My fashion classes were given a group challenge as a warmup for this year's J2F theme. We have these items on display in the hallway as a fun teaser to get  SAA students excited for this years J2F theme.

Fashion 1 students were assigned in groups of 4. Each group had to choose a painting from Impressionism - Pop Art movements. They had to create a fashion sketch and then create a wearable garment for our wooden mannequins, using fabric swatches or any found materials in the classroom.

Fashion 2/3 students were assigned in groups of 3. Each group was given ONE material and the group could only use that ONE material to create a garment and/or wearable accessory. Their sketch and overall idea had to be inspired by an artwork from the Impressionism - Pop Art movement.
