Community: New Hampstead High School, located in western Chatham County, is a part of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System whose district encompasses the city of Savannah and its outlying areas. Our doors opened to students on August 27, 2012. Savannah is a small urban port city. The local economy is supported by port businesses, pulp and paper industries, an executive jet company, other support businesses, and the tourism industry. The population of Chatham County is approximately 289,195 residents.

School Information: New Hampstead High School serves approximately 1200 students. Approximately 50% of the 2019 graduating class was accepted and planning to attend a four year school and 10% were accepted and planning to attend a two year or technical school. Typically, students attend Georgia Southern University, East Georgia State College, and Savannah Technical College. An additional 10% plan to enlist in the armed services.

Advanced Placement (AP) Program: New Hampstead High School offers a variety of AP classes. For the 2019-2020 school year, AP classes are offered in English Lang/Comp/Amer. Lit, Psychology, and Visual Arts/Studio Art: 2D Design.  Additional points (5) are added to the final grade for AP classes.

Honors Coursework: Honors classes are available in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. These classes are designated as “Honors” on the transcript. Additional points (3) are added to the final grade for Honors classes.

Bonus Points and the HOPE Scholarship: Additional points are added to the final passing semester grade for the following classes: Honors (3 points), Advanced Placement (AP-5 points), Dual Enrollment (DE-5 points), and International Baccalaureate (IB- 5 points). “Bonus points” from the aforementioned classes are removed from a student’s final grade prior to HOPE GPA calculations.

Grading Scale: Scholarship Conversion Scale = 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, Below 70 Failing. GPAs are on a 100 point scale. We do not convert GPAs to a 4.0 scale.

Class Rank: Rank is computed at the end of the junior year and the end of the first semester of the senior year. Class rank is determined by the numerical average of all grades for all subjects; rank is cumulative for all four years. Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment (DE), and International Baccalaureate (IB)) grades receive three(3) or five(5) bonus points, respectively, in the computation. 

Transcript Code for Dual Enrollment (DE): DE indicates dual enrolment classes through a college. Additional points (5) are added to the final grade for DE classes. During the 2018-2019 school year, 125 students were enrolled in at least one course.

Graduation Requirements:

  • 20 hours of Community Service is a requirement for graduation. 
  • There is only one diploma, but students can choose between the​ College Preparation Pathway and a Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) pathway.
