Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s):

It is with great pleasure and excitement to announce that we are having our second annual “Decision Day” at Sol C. Johnson High School for the Class of 2024! We know that our students were 10th graders when the COVID-19 pandemic affected our country, and things changed our nation as we know it today. We want to acknowledge and affirm the hard work, dedication, and perseverance our students have shown through these adverse times.

In doing so, we are planning a ceremony where our students will be acknowledged individually regarding their post-secondary plans following high school graduation. If they have been accepted to colleges, or the military, or receive a work opportunity, they will need to submit their acceptance letters or offers to their school counselor. If they have any scholarship awards, please submit this information too.

On Friday, May 3, 2024, at 1:15 p.m. we are planning to have a ceremony in our school’s gymnasium. We are asking students to wear paraphernalia representing their decision of college, military, or work. Students are encouraged to decorate a table of their school of choice, military branch, or work option and to include items to give away to the juniors. We will provide them with a certificate and a small reception following the ceremony. You are cordially invited to attend the ceremony and assist with setting up your child’s table the afternoon of between 12:00 p.m.- 1:00 p.m. You are also encouraged to wear apparel or colors of your child’s post-secondary option. This event will be live-streamed for other family members to watch and enjoy who may not be able to attend.

Please rsvp your attendance and participation using the provided link to register: http://tiny.cc/decisionday24. We ask that all responses be provided by Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact your child’s school counselor.

Sincerely,

SCJ Counseling Team

Kristal Freeman, Counselor K-L
