Positive Peer Influencers

7th and 8th-grade parents:

The State Board of Education requires all schools in grades K-12 to provide instruction regarding alcohol, tobacco, vapor products, and other drug use on an annual basis (State Board Rule 160-4-2-.12 Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Program). The instruction must be a part of a planned program that provides information about the use, misuse, and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, legal and illegal drugs.

As a part of our instructional efforts, the district is partnering with the Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire and Chatham County Narcotics to offer the Positive Peer Influencer Program at your child’s school. The Positive Peer Influencer Program partners trained high school students with middle school students to provide strategies and resources in support of making positive decisions. This will occur through classroom presentations, pep rallies, and other standards-based activities.

Members of the Islands High School PPI program will work with our 7th and 8th-grade students during an advisement lesson to cover these topics. If you would like to opt your student out of the presentation; please complete the opt-out form at the link below.
