Accelerated Reader

Published on: 12/1/2020

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a reading recall and comprehension program created by Renaissance Learning, Inc. After reading a book the student goes to the computer and takes a multiple-choice comprehension test on the book's content. Tests may have 5, 10, or 20 items, depending on the length and difficulty of the book. The computer scores the test, awards the student points based on the results, and keeps a complete record.

Here's how it works:

1. Read an eBook or library book.

2. Login to our AR site (your teacher will provide your username & password):

 3. Take an AR test.

What books are AR books?

Many fiction and nonfiction books have tests written for them. One way to find out if a book has a test is to search for it using AR Book Finder .
