Oath of Office Ceremony Held
At a ceremony preceding the Informal Board Meeting, newly elected and re-elected members of the Board took the Oath of Office. The Honorable Tammy Stokes, Chief Judge of Chatham County Recorder's Court, officiated the swearing in of District 1 School Board Representative Denise Grabowski, District 2 School Board Representative Dr. Dionne Hoskins-Brown, District 3 School Board Representative Cornelia Hall and District 7 School Board Representative Michael Johnson.
FY 2022 Budget Process Update
At the Informal Meeting of the Board, Division of Finance staff presented an update on the FY2022 Budget Process. The presentation addressed declining enrollment and how that will affect district revenue as well as the FY 2021-2022 Budget Calendar.

Exemplary Board of Distinction
At the Formal Meeting of the Board, it was announced that the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Public Education has received notification from the Georgia School Boards Association, at their virtual Annual Conference on December 4, 2020, that the Board remains in compliance with the “Standards for Local Boards of Education" and has achieved the “Exemplary Board of Distinction" award through January 1, 2022.

Superintendent's COVID-19 Operational Update

District SY 2020-21 Assessment Calendar Amendment Number Two Approved
During the December 9, 2020, Board meeting, changes to the published assessment calendar were ratified for approval as a result of the Georgia Department of Education's implementation of SB 367 and the COVID-19 pandemic. These adjustments were made as part of a collaborative effort between the department of Accountability, Assessment, and Reporting Services; the Associate Superintendents; and school principals. Since that time, two additional modifications were necessary to increase the flexibility of the GMAS EOG and EOC test administrations and an update was provided to clarify requirements for the MAP end of year window.

Policy Adopted
Policy DJAA-Authorized Signatures has been modified due to changes that are needed as a result of the conversion to a new business information system (MUNIS). This update was presented as a First Read at the December 2020 meeting of the Board and was adopted at the January meeting following a second read.

Policy IFAA, Administrative Regulation IFAA-R Instructional Materials Selection and Adoption Pursuant to Board Policy BDE-Policy Review, District Administration has reviewed Board Policy IFAA-Instructional Materials Selection and Adoption along with the supporting regulation. Changes were made in part due to the conversion to the new MUNIS business system, and to reflect current employee roles and responsibilities. Regulation Update
Policy Regulation GBRK-R Professional Personnel Vacations (Four Year Review) Pursuant to Board Policy BDE- Policy Review, District Administration has reviewed Board Regulation GBRK-R Professional Personnel Vacations and has determined a need for changes. The regulation was updated to reflect current procedures and changes to position names.
