School Nutrition Overview
At the Informal Meeting of the Board, Senior Director of School Nutrition Onetha Bonaparte provided a report on School Nutrition Costs and Revenues from FY 2015 to the present.

ESPLOST 1:1 Technology Initiative Resolution
At the Regular Meeting of the Board, a resolution was passed in support of the Data and Accountability Division’s plan to enhance the teaching and learning environment at Groves High School and Mercer Middle School through a targeted 1:1 Technology initiative. The funding for this initiative is provided through ESPLOST Technology Funds.


Beach High Auditorium
The Board approved the one-time contract award for Beach High School’s Auditorium Addition to Pioneer Construction, Inc. under BID C2002 (ESPLOST) in the amount of $5,825,350.00.

New Hampstead K8
The Board approved the award of Bid #C20-01 (ESPLOST) General Contracting Services for the construction of the New Hampstead K-8 School to CPPI of Georgia, LLC for the one-time cost of $38,516.405.00.

Sharing the Good News!

PTA Schools of Excellence
National PTA has recognized more than 300 schools and PTAs from across the country as 2019-2021 National PTA Schools of Excellence for their leadership and accomplishments nationwide in building strong, effective family-school partnerships. The schools and PTAs represent 38 states and three Department of Defense schools overseas. Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools have three representatives on that list. They are Coastal Middle School, Hesse K8 School and Marshpoint Elementary School! Congratulations to all!

COMMUNITY HERO AWARD: Board Member Michael Johnson
Board Member Michael Johnson used the life-saving skills he learned from our SCCPSS Nursing Staff to save a life this summer while on vacation with his family! District Lead Nurse Lisa Wilson, who led district nurses in a CPR Training Session for Board Members earlier this year, presented Mr. Johnson with a certificate of appreciation.

Exchanging of the Plates!
As of July 1st, our 2020 SCCPSS Teacher of the Year (TOTY) and Instructional Support Person of the Year (ISPY) took over the reins from their outgoing colleagues. The August 14th Regular Board Meeting featured the official exchanging of name plates and introduction of 2020 TOTY Kathryn Whitney and 2020 ISPY Jacquline White to the Board.

First Reads!

Board Policy DCC – Budget Preparation Procedures has been created to document the District Budget Preparation procedures.

Board Policy DCCB – Staff Involvement in Budget Making has been created to outline budgeting for staffing costs.

Pursuant to Board Policy BDE- Policy Review, District Administration has reviewed Board Policy DI – Accounting and Reporting and is providing several recommended revisions.

Pursuant to Board Policy BDE- Policy Review, District Administration has reviewed Board Policy FDC and has determined no changes are required. The associated regulation has also been reviewed and includes changes. Policy FDC will come back in September for a second read adoption based on feedback received by the Board.

Pursuant to Board Policy BDE - Policy Review, District Administration has reviewed Board Policy KH - Public Gifts along with the supporting regulation and exhibit and is recommending revisions. Language has been added to further define gifts to the District as voluntary, unconditional, and provided without expectation.

Policy Adopted!

Policy FG – Facilities Projects Administration has been revised due to the passing of HB 322. The revisions align the policy with O.C.G.A. 36-80-27, which relates to the advertisement of bid or proposal opportunities of a certain amount in the Georgia Procurement Registry. The revisions also define Public Works Construction Projects and include approval requirements specific to the procurement of projects with a value under $100,000. Policy revisions also define the local approval requirements of purchase orders for Public Works Construction Projects in a manner that is designed to save time, provide timely response and faster service.

Savannah Classical Academy Charter Contract
On March 28, 2019, the Georgia Board of Education approved Savannah Classical Academy’s renewal charter contract for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2022. Official notification was received via email on July 18, 2019.
