Portrait of Joe BuckJoe is a native of Alabama and has resided in Savannah since 1968. For 38 years he was employed at Armstrong Atlantic State University and served as Vice President for Student Affairs. He has been married for 54 years to Marilyn who was the Asst. Dean of the College of Health Professions at AASU. They have two children, Joe IV, who is a Chaplain in the United States Navy and is presently serving a three year deployment to Guam with his wife and two children and Sarah, who is an Assistant Principal in the Decatur, Georgia school system. She is married and has two children.


 Joe has been active in the Savannah community, across Georgia and the Southeastern United States. He is a graduate of Leadership Savannah and Leadership Georgia, has served on community and state boards related to education and has served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the United Way of the Coastal Empire. He has been a Rotarian for 30 years. He is a longtime active member and Sunday School Teacher at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.

He is a principal partner in JBK Associates LLC, an organizational development corporation and recently retired after 21 years as Executive Director of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs.

  • Bachelor of Arts with major in Sociology, Auburn University, 1963; 
  • Master of Science in Student Personnel Administration (Higher Education), Florida State University 1967; and 
  • Doctor of Education in University Administration, University of Georgia, 1976.
