The Department of Specialized Instruction Behavioral Services Team motto is “Building on Student Strengths.” The Behavioral Services team is committed to Building on Student Strengths to provide students and families with a variety of supports and resources to help improve resilience and develop positive social skills and reduce challenging behaviors.
What is Resilience?
Resilience is having a good outcome in the face of difficulties. This is something all caregivers aspire to for their children. Research has shown there are four common protective factors in resilient children:
- Supportive adult-child relationships;
- a sense of self-efficacy and perceived control;
- adaptive skills and self-regulatory capacities; and
- sources of faith, hope, and cultural traditions.
What is Social Emotional Learning?
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
Behavior-based consultation may be scheduled by completing the Behavior Request Form
. Parents will be contacted for consultation. Specialized instruction behavioral staff will be available by request for consultation or coaching via audio/video conferencing.
