The Department of Intervention Academic Services supports teachers as they address the needs of the whole child. We service teachers who work with the Early Intervention Program (EIP), Remedial Education Program (REP) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support/Response to Intervention (MTSS/RTI). It is our goal to help the teachers meet the students where they are and deliver them with high quality instruction which encompasses best practices and differentiated instruction.
Early Intervention Program (EIP)
The purpose of the Early Intervention Program (EIP) is to serve students who are at risk of not achieving academic grade level success. EIP provides students with additional instructional support when they are performing below grade level to help them reach grade level performance in the shortest time possible. The EIP placement and exit is based on student achievement in the content areas of ELA/reading and mathematics. EIP is aligned with Georgia's Tiered System of Supports for Students Framework.
In the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System each elementary school has a lead EIP teacher that is responsible for supporting teachers who serve EIP students. For more information, please visit The Georgia Department of Education website, Learning and Curriculum website.
Remedial Education Program (REP)
The purpose of the Remedial Education Program (REP) is to serve students in grades 6 – 12 who have academic deficiencies in reading, writing, and math. REP provides additional instruction and interventions to support students in meeting grade level achievement in middle and high school. REP is a part of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports which provides whole child support to the students.
In Savannah-Chatham County Public School System each middle and high school has a lead REP teacher that is responsible for supporting teachers who serve REP students. For more information, please visit The Georgia Department of Education website, Learning and Curriculum website.
Georgia Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
The Georgian Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a statewide plan to provide continuous support for districts, schools and students. The essential components of MTSS includes screening, progress monitoring, data-based decision making, multilevel instruction/prevention, infrastructure and support mechanisms. MTSS is also designed to provide different levels of support needed to maximize student achievement and reduce behavior problems.
In Savannah-Chatham County Public School System each school has a building level MTSS/RTI coordinator that is responsible for supporting teachers with the MTSS/RTI process. For more information, please visit The Georgia Department of Education website, Teaching and Learning website.
