 Summer Learning Opportunities

Dear Parents,

Summer time is a magical time for students and families.  I want to encourage you to consider summer as a time for learning.  You are your children’s first teacher; take them to the library, visit a museum, or plant a garden.  There are so many opportunities for learning all around the beautiful city of Savannah.

The Savannah Chatham County Public School System is excited to offer for the third year in a row an array of summer learning opportunities.  Our focus is on remediation, acceleration, and enrichment, with many being offered free of charge.  Our goal is to offer students a customized learning environment that meets the needs of individual learners.

Research shows that children who are involved in high quality summer learning experiences benefit academically.  Summer learning has been found to have the following benefits:

  • Reduce summer learning loss for students

  • Students attending summer programs have better outcomes than similar peers who do not attend the programs

  • Increased opportunities for students to experience learning on their individual level for acceleration, remediation, and/or enrichment
