Published on: 5/10/2021

For more than 70 years, The Hartford Insurance Group has been training kids to become “junior fire marshals." The Junior Fire Marshal program is a life-saving fire prevention and safety program turning millions of kids into everyday heroes.  According to The Hartford, the Junior Fire Marshal Training Academy has deputized more than 111 million kids as “junior fire marshals" to date, and this week, SCCPSS students are earning their “badges and helmets."  The Hartford has committed $5,000 to support the district's fire safety education efforts and programming for all K-3 students.  Students in grades K-3 will receive a certifcate of completion upon of the course.  All students recieved Junior Fire Marshall helmets, too!

Kids will learn four basic safety lessons:

  • Matches and lighters are for grown-ups
  • Smoke alarms are important
  • Families should create and practice an escape plan
  • Families should establish an outside meeting place

A schedule has been created for each school and each grade level.
