Student of the Month for March 2023 is Brianna Cuevas of Hesse K-8

Published on: 4/12/2023

Our student of the month for March 2023 is Hesse K-8 8th grader, Brianna Cuevas.  Brianna's accomplishments include High Honor Roll, Honor Roll, Art Medals, and she is currently enrolled in High School Spanish, as well as High School courses for 9th Grade Literature/Composition and Algebra 1 Honors.

Briana's history of achievement began a while ago!  In 5th grade, she was a spelling bee finalist.  In 6th grade, our young scholar was a member of the Safety Patrol and was a finalist in the Savannah Arts art competition with her Harriet Tubman portrait entry. Presently, she is Student Council President, and she designed the cover art  for this year's yearbook. In her “spare" time, our honored student assists in community projects such as litter clean up at Lake Mayer and she also volunteers at Compassion Church. Her athletic endeavors have included swim team and cross country and she's currently taking weekly drum lessons!

Her nominator, Angel Kiley, told us Briana is “one of the most driven I have had the pleasure of working with. She is a natural born leader. She stands up for her peers and goes out of her way to make new students feel welcome in the school.  I have extremely high hopes for this young lady and would not be surprised if she aspires to be the first female President of the United States."

When asked what motivates her to strive for academic success, our student stated simply, “My future.  I want to be very independent when I am older and successful.  I take my learning and knowledge very seriously; I feel the more you know the better you are at things. My mother inspires me to be a strong, independent woman.  She has a master's in nursing and is a nurse practitioner.  This shows me that you can always achieve your goals."

Brianna is taking home multiple gifts our community business partners – a gift card from Members First Credit Union and The Horne Law Firm. Also, she will receive a meal voucher and merchandise from Chicken Salad Chick, as well as a dozen cupcakes from J's Sweet Treats. Brianna and students of her English/Language Arts class will receive printed copies of her favorite book The Door by the Staircase by Katherine Marsh from our sponsor E. Shaver Booksellers. Lastly, Brianna will take home a portrait by Upscale Photography provided by Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools. Again, congratulations to Brianna, her family and her school!
