The Georgia School Board Association has recognized the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education as a Quality Board for 2022. GSBA showcases achievements of Boards of Education throughout the year by recognizing Boards whose hard work and dedication create a culture of good governance and student success across the state.
In 1998, the Georgia School Boards Association was one of the first school board associations in the nation to develop a program of standards for local boards of education. The program reflects a set of state standards adopted by the Georgia Board of Education in 2011 that provides school boards additional ways to increase their effectiveness.
This Board Recognition Program requires a high level of commitment from school boards and individual members. The ultimate goal is to provide a platform based on governance standards that challenges boards but creates a culture of success for students and communities.
The Board had to meet a number of criteria to achieve the designation. Those include goals in strategic planning, the Georgia Vision Project, self-assessment, Superintendents Evaluation, training, accreditation, ethics, and fiscal responsibility.
GSBA will honor this year's recipients at the 2022 GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta in December.
