SCCPSS students from eight schools were recognized last month by Georgia Southern University's College of Education which selected their art work for display at the University's Armstrong Campus. Student artwork from Derenne Middle School, Hesse K8, Hodge Elementary School, Hubert Middle School, Johnson High School, Pulaski Elementary School, Savannah Arts Academy and Tybee Island Maritime Academy were chosen to be part of the display. A complete list of the honored SCCPSS students and teachers is below.

Hubert Middle 7th Grader Te'Jean Sheppard has two pieces on display and had the opportunity meet the subject of one of his two digital drawings – Mayor Van Johnson. " I am so honored that Te'Jean chose me for his project, said Mayor Johnson. “I am thrilled that Te'Jean's representation of me makes me look even more handsome 🙂. He has a brilliant future before him and I thank his parents and Team Hubert for nurturing his talent." Te'Jean was able to explain the creative process involved in creating his digital drawing to the mayor who has requested a framed copy to hang in his office.

There will also be a copy of both pieces on display at Hubert Middle School. Te'Jean's family also had the opportunity to meet Mayor Johnson at the Gallery Opening on April 10th.
The GSU College of Education's Art Extravaganza began in 2004 as an initiative to spotlight the artwork of exceptional P-12 art students in the region, many of whom are taught by Georgia Southern University alumni. The exhibit artwork is displayed on all three Georgia Southern University campus locations – Statesboro, Armstrong, and Liberty. The Art Extravaganza is sponsored by Georgia Southern University's College of Education.
The ceremony held on Sunday, April 10 on the Armstrong campus was the first in-person Gallery Opening for the Armstrong and Liberty campuses artwork.
