The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has received a donation of Albuterol inhalers from Cipla USA, a global pharmaceutical company.  This donation was made possible through the collaboration between Representative Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) and Cipla USA to improve student health and safety.
As a part of the donation, 50 schools within the SCCPSS district were provided with an adequate supply of Albuterol HFA Inhalers for the school year, a lifesaving "rescue inhaler" for students needing immediate inhaled respiratory medication.
“The generous donation, following the request made by District Nurse Lisa Wilson, has helped alleviate the shortage of Albuterol HFA inhalers in SCCPSS schools,” said Congressman Buddy Carter. “These inhalers are life-saving medications that all students must have access to, and I am thrilled that Cipla USA and SCCPSS recognized the importance of protecting our children.”
Upon receiving the inhalers, Nurse Wilson, who initially made the request to Rep. Carter’s office, highlighted the importance of having them readily available at all schools, emphasizing that the recent donation will help protect the health and safety of students, guaranteeing that they have access to life-saving medication during any unforeseen medical crisis.
“It was just a passing comment [Congressman Carter] made to me once, ‘let me know if I can ever do anything to help you,’ but I remembered it and all it took was one call to Congressman Carter’s office,” Nurse Wilson said. “We know that having a rescue inhaler at each school may be the difference between a hospital visit and a sick day. A child in respiratory distress cannot wait. This donation from Cipla is a Godsend.”
