SCCPSS Mourns Loss of US Solider Who Attended Windsor Forest High School

Published on: 1/30/2024

SCCPSS joins our nation, our state, and our community in mourning the loss of three Georgia soldiers who were killed by an unmanned aerial drone strike on Sunday, January 28, 2024, in Jordan.  One of the soldiers, Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, was a 2019 graduate of our school system from Windsor Forest High School.  Moffett was a soldier in the Army Reserve supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.  We remain deeply grateful for her service to our country and proud to call her part of the SCCPSS family.  Our thoughts are with her immediate family and loved ones during this very difficult time.

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, staff and students at Windsor Forest High School held a ceremony to honor Breonna’s memory at the flagpole in front of the school.  Former JROTC instructor LTC (Ret.) Michael Busteed, who taught Breonna while she attended Windsor Forest High, was on hand, along with former Windsor Forest Principal Derrick Butler, to share remembrances of the former student. Former band director Stephen Johnson was also in attendance. Breonna was a member of the band and served as Drum Major for the Marching Knights.

Members of Breonna's family were also at the ceremony.  They were presented special JROTC coins in her honor.  See more photos from the event here.
