SCCPSS 2023 Teacher of the Year Honored with Flag Raising Ceremony

Published on: 9/21/2022

On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, District Administrators and Board of Education Representatives gathered at Charles Ellis Montessori Academy to raise the Flag of Learning and Liberty. The ceremony symbolizes the importance of quality education and represents teachers who contribute to the betterment of our community through stellar teaching practices.

The ceremony was held in honor of Elizabeth Whalen, the district's 2022-23 Teacher of the Year.  Ms. Whalen is a Montessori Certified Educator at Charles Ellis Montessori Academy. She is a graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education in 2006.  She earned her master's degree in Curriculum Integration Through the Arts from Lesley University in 2015.

As a representative of the many dedicated teachers across the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, the district's Teacher of the Year is honored with the distinction of having the Flag of Learning and Liberty proudly displayed at his or her school for the year.  The Flag's design incorporates the red, white, and blue of the “Stars and Stripes", symbolizing America's historical belief in and reliance upon education.
