Our featured Student of the Month for October is Ryland Bartley, a 12th grader at the School of Liberal Studies at Savannah High School. His nominator shares that “Ryland demonstrates positive leadership on the field, in the classroom, and everywhere in between. He proudly serves as a Captain of the Varsity football team, is a 3DE Junior Achievement Ambassador for Savannah High's 3DE program, serves as President of the National Honor Society, and volunteers with non-profits outside of school for causes that are important to him, such as environmental justice and racial equality." Ryland is a member of the Superintendent's Student Senate for Savannah High and has participated in Gulfstream's Student Leadership Program. And wouldn't you know it? He was elected 2022 Homecoming King by the student body! He is well-known throughout the school and sets a great example to others through his character and the integrity of his actions and choices. This young scholar has done all of this while taking the most challenging courses the school offers, such as AP and honors classes. In addition, he is dually enrolled for next semester. He truly represents 'Blue Jacket Excellence' through his actions and leadership.
Ryland has completed the Law Pathway and is applying to Morehouse College to pursue a degree in Business Management in hopes of becoming an entrepreneur or a leader in the field of logistics and distribution.
Ryland says, “I strive to be great because of my family, who push and support me to be the best that I can possibly be in life and academics. Their support has been constant and continuous."
Congratulations to Ryland, his family, and the faculty and staff of School of Liberal Studies at Savannah High School! Special thanks to his nominator Alex Seidensticker, Gifted and Advanced Content Lead at Savannah High. Ryland is taking home multiple gifts from our community partners – a gift card from Members First Credit Union as well as Horne Law. Additionally, he will receive a meal voucher from Chicken Salad Chick, as well as Chicken Salad Chick merchandise, and a dozen cupcakes from J's Sweet Treats. Ryland and students in his Sociology class will receive printed copies of his favorite book “The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas from our sponsor E. Shaver Booksellers. Lastly, Ryland will take home a portrait by Upscale Photography provided by Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools. Again, congratulations!
