The Board of Public Education for the City of Savannah and the County of Chatham will hold a public hearing on April 10, 2024, at 10:15 AM regarding its renewal application to continue as a Strategic Waivers School System (SWSS). The public hearing will be held in Building G of the Whitney Administrative Complex, 2 Laura Avenue, Savannah, GA.

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has completed its original five-year performance contract with an additional two-year extension. The current contract is set to expire on June 30, 2024.

During the application process, the administration established three teams (Academic, Financial, and Human Resources) for in-depth review and discussion on Title 20 Laws and School Board Rules waiver options provided by the Georgia Department of Education. Savannah-Chatham County Public School System intends to leverage waivers to provide schools with flexibility for student growth, achievement, and the holistic well-being of staff and students.

The State Department of Education requires school districts pursuing the Strategic Waivers School System to submit their application for consideration to the Georgia Department of Education by May 24, 2024.
