Mercer Middle Scholars Present YARDs Action Plan for Community Change

Published on: 11/30/2022

Mercer Middle School scholars participated in the Youth Advocacy for Resilience to Disasters (YARDs) afterschool program presenting their Action Plan to advocate for community change. These students worked on environmental impact approaches to create awareness about flooding, health issues, and resource acquisition throughout Savannah. The program is conducted by the GATECH CEISMIC Department, with research partner Savannah State University. The focus for the pilot project included historically Black communities on the west side of Savannah, which have long endured the effects of ongoing intersecting environmental disasters and social inequities.
