Islands High Student Named Chatham County Star Student

Published on: 2/19/2019

A Savannah-Chatham County Public School student tied for top honors at this year’s Annual STAR Student and STAR Teacher recognition luncheon.  Islands High School Senior Caroline Adkins was honored along with Caitlinn Ellis of Savannah Christian Prep. Adkins chose to honor Ms. Megan Heberle as her STAR Teacher.

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program seeks to showcase academic excellence among public and private high school students.  Each year across the state of Georgia, STAR students and STAR teachers are honored by their schools and receive special recognition in their communities from civic organizations and businesses that serve as local sponsors of the STAR program.  Those recognized receive the opportunity to continue to regional and state level competition.

The factors considered in naming the STAR student are class rank and SAT Scores.  The student then chooses to honor a teacher who has been influential in their education as their STAR Teacher.

The Chatham County event is held each year by the Kiwanis Club of Savannah.  Corporate sponsors of the event include, Kinder Morgan, Reese & Company, Bernard Williams, Hussey Gay Bell, and Rody’s Audio Warehouse.
