Educators Get Up Close View of Economic Development in Chatham County

Published on: 10/24/2023

The Savannah Economic Development Authority and SCCPSS staff have come together to produce an economic development course for SCCPSS educators.  This is the fourth year for the four session program.  During the series, participants will learn about the relationships between SCCPSS and local employers with the goal of opening lines of communication and laying the groundwork for meaningful partnerships.  The program also will showcase the lesser known and unique employers, occupations and industries to expand SCCPSS staff's knowledge of the local economy.  Teachers will meet business leaders who can provide experiential learning that allows them to better understand their role in economic development and the opportunities available for students who work for local employers.

"This course helps me understand the needs of employers and the opportunities available for students," said one participant.  "We can help improve the local workforce pipeline by ensuring that our students have access to local employers, to understand the opportunities before AND after graduation."

Here is some of the content from the sessions:

  • Economic Development – Ecosystem Flowchart
  • Workforce Development
  • Careers and Occupations – Savannah Area Careers (Demand & Forecasting/ Wage Data)
  • Anatomy of an Attraction Project
  • Made In Savannah - Manufacturing
  • Emerging Industries 101  - Film, Technology and Professional Services (Logistics Tech Corridor)
