Alfred Ely Beach High School hosted it's 2nd annual College Decision Day (the first high school in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System to tag onto this national trend) to celebrate its graduating seniors and to recognize each of their decisions to enroll in a post-secondary institution, enlist in the Armed Forces, or gain career-based employment upon high school graduation.
The goal of Decision Day is to recognize high school seniors for their postsecondary plans and encourage younger students and families to prepare early for postsecondary education. Decision Day is held annually on or around May 1 and is designed to coincide with the date that most seniors must inform a college of their plans to enroll.
Decision Day is inspired by the NCAA’s National Signing Day to reinforce that excellence in the classroom should be given as much attention and recognition as excellence in athletics. NCAA’s National Signing Day is when high school seniors sign a letter of intent to play sports at a specific college. Traditionally, student-athletes participate in press conferences and signing ceremonies to announce their intent to attend a college. Decision Day’s purpose is to generate this excitement for ALL students going to the next stage of learning regardless of their participation in a sport. Kudos to Athletic Director for Beach High School, Ms. Khalilah Watson, on bringing this tradition to our hometown. Alfred Ely Beach High School, where Mr. Craig Daughtry is Principal, is proud to join in celebrating its students as they prepare to cross the stage and take on various new challenges in life.
